To mark the 100th anniversary of the first meeting of the Roman Society on 3rd June, 1910, there will be a celebration at the British Museum. The President of the Society, Andrew Burnett (as the Emperor Vespasian) will be joined by Bettany Hughes, Mary Beard and a number of classicists, archaeologists and staff of the British Museum in costume. The Imperial Guard will be provided by the re-enactment group Legio II Augusta. Classics students from Godolphin and Latymer School and Holland Park Comprehensive will present a Birthday Card to the Emperor.
The event will begin at 11am and take place on the forecourt of the British Museum.
It will be followed at 1.15pm by a public lecture by Andrew Burnett on "Hordes and Hoards in Roman Britain" in the Clore Education Centre.
